This Week...the home stretch

- Still revising wearing: hareem pants & necklace (New Look), black vest top (George @ASDA), tank top (Reiss) - Top Coat: Barry M Instant nail effects (Black), Base Coat: Boots natural collection (Nail tip whitener) - July Issue of Elle magazine UK cover, "Take my breath away" spread, "Style for less" spread - Emma Watson in the July edition of Empire magazine's Harry Potter collector's portfolio -

Aha last week of revision and brain numbness, my last exam is on Friday and I'm so pumped for Summer! Hopefully I won't need to retake any of them, leaving a good 4-ish months of freedom (and occassional part time work but I'll just ignore that bit lol). My exams last week went alright but a few things did keep me going.
The first being the July issue of Elle arriving on my doorstep with Rosie Huntington Whiteley on the cover. I don't know about you guys but I always got a really bad vibe off the girl, I guess I was a little intimidated by her looks, but she came across really lovely in the interview. I also loved the "Take my breath away" and "Style for less" photo stories. It also came with the Reiss top I'm wearing in my outfit above. I never usually like freebie tops in magazines but this one's really nice.
I also bought the Harry Potter farewell edition of Empire magazine. As well as being a lovely tribute to my favourite fandom and series, Emma Watson is looking stunning in it wearing - surprise, surprise - Burberry.
I finally got my hands on Barry's special effect nail polish in black. I've wanted to try out the crackled effect since I saw the OPI polishes online a few months ago and was so happy to find out that Barry M are doing them now. I bought the black, but I they have pink and white too, and I must say it looks so awesome. I would say if you want to see a better crackle effect, spread the polish thicker - only 1 coat though - as the thinner the polish the fewer smaller the cracks. I think you can see what I mean on the photo above.

I'm really excited to get back to blogging seriously this Summer, I feel like Uni brushed aside all my enthusiasm to blog the past month. Stay tuned!

This Week...the weather knows it's exam period

These quick posts are becoming routine now aren't they? lol I'm still in the thick of exam period - boo! But I've got about 2 weeks left and I'm (hopefully) free for the Summer!
So another slouchy outfit post. I needed to head to the corner shop to get some energy drinks before I started revision today and it looked all nice and sunny at first. Then about 20 minutes later the grey clouds rolled in. It's almost as if the weather knows I'm not supposed to be in a good mood when I have two exams this week ¬_¬ so I had to stick the leggings on underneath the shorts and my chunky cardigan too.
Ah well, after Wednesday I have decent break before my last exam a week on Friday! And I'm itching to get back to blogging regularly - got some cool stuff planned ;D stay tuned.

Back to the books I go =|

Wishlist Item...

Bird Border Kimono
£50 from TopShop
I'm really loving this trend! I've seen kimono's everywhere lately, both on the blogsphere and in real life. I'm currently on the search for a perfect one that will go with everything and I think I found it. I spied the one above from the TopShop website and it's gorgeous! It's nice and simple but the print is amazing. If you've been following me for a while, you'll know I'm a sucker for a bird print ;D I mean just look at the detail.
The temptation to use this print as my blog background is a little too much lol.
But £50 for one item is a little out of reach for my student budget, I'm definitely holding out till this goes into the sale! Gotta have a little patience.

Wishlist Item...

Wrkshp Ancient Star Tee
$50 from Les Pommettes
Call me emo, call me hipster, I'm such a sucker for a printed t-shirt. They're so simple and go with everything! You only have to look at some of my outfit posts to see I pretty much live in batwing style/slouchy crop t-shirts, which means they definitely shouldn't be excluded from my wishlist. I'm loving this one from Les Pommettes. Doing a survey of my wardrobe recently I found I own at least 6 different types of white t-shirt, but who cares! This would make a very worthy addition and I love the space print on the front. Simple. Clean. And oh so on trend.

Wishlist Item...

Opening Ceremony
Tribal Print Silk Culottes
£350 from brownsfashion
The sun seems to still be shining here in the UK, albeit sporadically. I'm loving the tribal print trend at the moment; I've seen some amazing patterns and is a nice alternative to the floral that are all around in the Summer. These Opening Ceremony shorts are perfect! The colour is fabulous and would look great with wedge sandals and simple tank top.

This Week...back to reality and back to studying

Batwing top - New Look
Necklace - New Look
High waisted shorts - DIY-ed denim jeans
Socks - Primark

After last week's essay of a blog post I'll be quick this week! I'm currently in the middle of writing a rather important Law essay (due in on Weds =S) and gearing up for exams starting next week. After my birthday celebrations it's been an nice easy comeback at Uni, alot of my modules have finished teaching so it's been revision lectures and trips to the library to haul books back home to revise from. I luckily had a day off on Wednesday and instead of slobbing around in my PJ's all day I decided to put on this outfit to cheer myself up from my revision slog. The shorts are a pair I DIY-ed a while ago from an old pair of jeans. Needless to say it helped me feel a little better after hours of revision.
I'll warn you now I may be M.I.A from blogging in the next few weeks because of exams. I promise once it hits summer I'll be back on track!

My life in magazines

Fashion Magazines. They pretty much come with the territory when you start blogging about fashion.

I was clearing out my room this week and kept coming across magazines whilst moving bits and pieces around. I gathered them all together and found ones dating right back to when I was a pre-teen. So I thought I'd take a trip down magazine memory lane with my life in through their glossy pages.

Starting off. I started buying fashion magazines as a pre-teen. Initially they were treats from my mum, instead of getting an allowance. Sugar magazine was my introduction to the fashion world, it was bright, beautiful and full of great UK teen fashion. Plus with the added 'Lad Mag' and teen advice columns it was pretty much a bible for my pre-teens. Back then fashion was a minefield, I was a tomboy who wanted to be girly so I guess this was my first venture into femininity.

After, a trip back home to the Philippines in my mid-teens I bought Teen Vogue for the plane ride (the top magazine in the pile above is that issue) and loved it! American fashion really took my interest, the styling was different (though it might've been the influence from the main Vogue) and the fashion stories seemed more exciting and up to the minute. So I started buying copies alongside Sugar. I eventually stopped buying Sugar, to my 14/15 year old self I felt a bit more sophisticated buying Teen Vogue and reveled in American popular culture.

Wanting to graduate to the big girl's magazines I started buying Vogue after stealing away my mum's copy of the 100th Anniversary edition. But it hit my pocket hard (I was a lowly student after all) and I switched back to the teen version after a few editions. Vogue did spark my interest in the fashion industry though, I remember getting into the idea of becoming a fashion editor after reading Vogue and watching The Devil Wears Prada.

I then had a phase of getting weekly fashion/gossip magazines. They were cheaper and I felt more inclined to get rid of them as they were only god for a quick fashion fix. These three are the only ones I have left. Weeklies required no brain power to read so were a great after exam treat both at GCSE and A Level.

Since becoming a commuter for University I tended to switch between the major fashion magazines here in the UK - Marie Claire, Glamour, Elle UK and Company - usually dependent on the free gifts and who's on the cover, superficial but what can I say I'm a student and I'm swayed by freebies lol. In terms of fashion I was discouraged away from taking on fashion journalism as a career, instead favouring to use fashion as a tool for expression using the magazines as personal inspiration. It also seemed appropriate to be reading about 'grown up' problems and advice columns in these magazines now that I was 17/18 year old instead of trivial playground problems in Teen Vogue and Sugar.

And now, with my Elle UK subscription which I got at London Fashion Weekend, I've got a monthly fix of glossy fashion for blog inspiration.
But when that ends who know where I'll go? I've been swayed into flicking through the more 'obscure' titles as well as reading online magazines too.
What about you guys?
What are your favourite magazines?
What did you start of with?
And what are you reading now?

This Week...Everything is awesome and nothing hurts - especially now I'm 19 ;)

- Birthday pressies from my mum, dad & the sis - packing for Plymouth and getting outfit ready for my birthday night out last Friday - my giveaway prize from GingerSnap (gorgeous scarf and bracelet) - This month's Elle magazine - The beautiful Plymouth coastline - Pirates vs Ninja's night with the lovely Kathoha (follow her! follow her!) - STARKID/STARSHIP taking over my internet consumption this week -

As promised a much better This Week post! After my last weekly update it's safe to say I've generally recovered alright from the major flu attack I caught last Monday. I literally spent the whole week in bed with a box of tissues, cold relief tablets and hot honey/lemon drinks at my bedside and it paid off in time for my birthday last Thursday :D
I got a new Sekonda watch, some tops and a dress from my Uncle and his family, £20 New look vouchers, £10 H&M vouchers, and £10 book vouchers. Why so many vouchers? lol well I didn't actually know what I wanted this year (for once), the only thing I was gagging for was a DSLR but I knew that wasn't going to happen =/. But I'm happy and it means I can spend them on what I want :)
While watching all the Royal Wedding footage on the Friday - along with the rest of the world - I was also packing to see my friend at Uni (she be a blogger too - go follow her Tumblr ;) shameless plugging) in Plymouth. I must say it is a b.e.a.utiful town and have suggest to my parents we go there in the Summer. Plus the shopping centre is killer! It was a Pirates vs Ninja's theme night (it was one of her friend's 18th birthday that Saturday) so naturally I went as a pirate.
Before I headed off on Saturday morning I not only received this month's Elle magazine - with Cameron Diaz on the cover - I also got the giveaway prize I won from the lovely GingerSnap. I never win anything! So it was nice to open the package up and recieve a very pretty scarf and button bracelet - which I'm wearing right now! So thank you GingerSnap!!
Also a little OT. If you follow me on Tumblr you'll know I'm a big StarKid fan. When I got back from Plymouth on Sunday afternoon me and my sister spent the rest of the day watching the new StarKid Production of StarShip. Ugh I love it so much! Any fellow StarKids out there??
Now it's back to reality =( I start back at Uni again tomorow for another 2 weeks of classes/lectures then exams...wah!
