Wild Thing

I've been noticing a trend in my jewellery lately...

Yes the trend for animals as jewellery pieces has certainly caught up on me. Mine are all from the feathered variety at the moment but I'm determined to add to my every growing collection with a few mammals and maybe a few insects.  You have to admit whether from land, sea or sky these pieces of jewellery  look wonderfully quirky and liven up any normal outfit.

Below, I've picked out some of my favourite pieces I've seen online, both from high end and high street retailers.

Wishlist Item...

ERICKSON BEAMON

Neon Lucite and Swarovski-crystal necklace

£735 from Net-a-Porter
Not gonna lie, I've been a bit M.I.A with blogging lately. Had a little too much going on IRL and a stupid cold crept up on me this week, but I'm back on track with a new wishlist item.
When you think of Swarovski crystals you'd normally think of bejewelled silver necklaces or earrings, with stunning diamonds or maybe subtle jewels with a hefty price tag. Well, not this necklace. Yes the hefty price tag is still there but this amazing Erickson Beamon statement necklace is the polar opposite of your run-of-the-mill crystal necklace.  First off the dark metal and black crystals, definitely screaming edgy. Then multicoloured neon gemstones! Neon! This could definitely be rocked with a daytime or night outfit.

Wishlist Item...

Poncho [in Burgundy]
£24.99 from H&M
Summer seems to have disappeared here in the UK. But why mope when this means I can lust over comfy knits all bursting out of the high street this Autumn and an unlikely trend I'm adding to my wishlist is the poncho. Now before you scoff, how boho chic does the one above from H&M look? Back from fashion Siberia, ponchos are making a major comeback! And after receiving my H&M catalogue this week I'm definitely adding this to my 'to buy' list. It comes in 3 different colours (the other two are below); but I love the Autumnal tones of the one above. I can imagine it being like wearing a giant blanket; which sounds brilliant to me :D

This Week...

[from left, clockwise]
- Outfit from my 'Adventures in Westfield' post -
- Harry Potter pretty much took over my life in past week, from snapping the awesome poster on the way home from London, to every single one of my Tumblr and Blogger posts this weekend. -
- I saw the film twice ^_^ the popcorn/fruit pastels/tissues are from last Friday's screening at 10pm, then again yesterday with my little sister. I cried both times...I have no regrets lol -
- After watching both films I'm re-reading the book (again) and renamed my Owl ring from New Look Hedwig :D (again no regrets lol) -
- I wanted to repaint my nails in tribute to the HP but my nail art skills suck so I thought black crackle effects will do [base colour: Boots Natural Collections, Topaz; top coat: Barry M Shatter Effects, Black] The topaz colour didn't come up on the photo but it looks really cool -

Inspired by...the Harry Potter series

Considering I'm such a massive Potterhead it was pretty inevitable that I would feature the books in some way on my blog.
Unlike with my last "From the pages of..." post, the Harry Potter series requires no description - unless you've been living under a rock for more than 10 years.
I thought I'd look at the personal styles of 3  characters from the Harry Potter book series: Hermione Granger, Ginny Weasley and Luna Lovegood.
I'll try to steer clear of the movie looks for each of the characters and take queue from their personality and descriptions from the books.

Hermione Granger, the cleverest witch of her age was never one to care much for looks. With her frizzy hair and intellectual manner Hermione's casual style to me would veer towards the practical but with dentists for parents I would imagine her life would not be completely void of clothes shopping.

Ginny Weasley as the youngest of 7 siblings, all of whom were boys, would most likely have the hardest time with her style. However, Ginny being Ginny I would imagine she would be a fantastic DIY-er, with many a hand me down from her brothers and her mother being a fabulous seamstress. As a quidditch player I could also see her preferring practicality and is very much a tomboy.

Luna Lovegood is definitely the kookiest character in the series. Daughter of the Editor of Quibbler and lover of Crumple-horned Snorlacks, Luna's wardrobe to me is full of fun. Unafraid of other opinions, I could see her getting away with much more than Hermione and Ginny in terms of colours and patterns (perhaps paying attention to the current mix prints trend at the moment).

Well I'm off to see Deathly Hallows part 2 for the second time tommorow with my sister; I saw it already yesterday with a friend of mine and sobbed like a baby. It was full on emotionally exhausting, but a wonderful end to the series...but bring on Pottermore!! ^_^

Adventures in Westfield

I went to London with a friend yesterday for some well deserved retail therapy in Westfield shopping centre. May not seem a big deal but I've never been there before ^_^ it's huge, with a cool mix of high street stores and designer boutiques like Burberry, Gucci and Miu Miu. I also managed to scoop up some bargain in sales.

What I wore: Cardigan: TopShop charity shop find; Vest top: Primark; Jeans & Necklace: New Look; Rings: assorted from H&M and TopShop.

4 floors of shopping heaven!
Coolest Harry Potter poster EVER!
The TopShop bag was so cool ^_^

Paper bag skirt: TopShop sale £35 £15, Leather beige shoulder bag: TopShop sale £38 £10!, Sweater: Gap sale £9.99

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 London premiere - Red Carpet fashion round up

Another red carpet round up. It's not an award ceremony but the sheer scale of the London premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in Trafalgar Square definitely warrants attention.
I spent the afternoon sobbing over the speeches and the fact that in a week I'll be watching my childhood end *sob*. But I was also paying close attention to the red carpet fashion of all these actors who I watched grow up over the years.

First up and my definite favourite of the whole event was Emma Watson. I remember her arriving at the Philosopher's Stone London premiere in something that resembled a sack, the dress wore her that time but oh how does time fly. She looked stunning and pulled out all the stops in a tulle Oscar De LaRenta ballgown. Swoon!

Another gorgeous Gryffindor was Bonnie Wright wowed me in her own special way. I love how she doesn't compromise her style and go for the big Oscar-style gown, it suited Emma but I'm not sure it would've suited Bonnie. She went for sophisticated elegance in Miu Miu.

The sun did shine down on this London premiere (albeit for just in time for the stars to come out) and I was happy to see these two great LWD's from Clemence Poesy (in Nina Ricci) and Evanna Lynch. I think I like Evanna's better though, the top half of Clemence's dress is a bit on the puffy side for my liking.
Two wonderful eccentrics in the form of Helena Bonham Carter and Natalia Tena. Helena never disappoints me with her wonderfully kooky style in a dark green gown with a pink fascinator, the only thing that's annoying me is her handbag, a matching pink handbag would've been nicer. At first glance Natalia's outfit is a bit of a miss. But it's actually grown on me, even down to the cowboy boots the whole outfit reminds me so much of her characters Tonks.

Proving that age is just a number are my two of my favourite British actresses; Imelda Staunton looking nothing like her sickly pink character Umbridge and Dame Maggie Smith sharply dressed in smart suit.

I couldn't leave the boys out of this fashion round up. With Rupert Grint, Tom Felton and Matthew Lewis keeping in plain, simple and sharp in striking black suits; and James and Oliver Phelps and the boy wizard Daniel Radcliffe himself thinking out of the box in light beige, navy and grey respectively.

And finally the Queen herself. JK Rowling looking stunning in Oscar De LaRenta. It's such a shame the red carpet soaked the edges of the dress, but I do lover her bejwelled earrings. She looks like mother nature ^_^

What a way to send Harry off!
