This Week...& first post as a 20 year old :)

29.04.2012
What I wore: Top [Bench], Cardigan, necklace & jeans [New Look], Boots [M&S], Scarf [H&M]
- Rain, rain and more rain this week - Nails [using Rimmel 'Black Cab' base & Glitter topcoat] - Boredom waiting for lectures - Relaxing on the commute home on Friday with Glee & muchies - nerdy Birthday presents from my parents & sister - also a Fairtrade jewellery box - Very pretty necklace from my Aunt, Uncle & cousins in New Zealand, handmade too - My mum made this monster of a birthday cake, I love her sometimes ^_^ - Teryaki chicken at Wagamama's - ...yeah we pretty much demolished our meal there lol -

Well I'm officially no longer a teenager. I feel like turning into a 20 year old should come with some massive big 'boom' moment, but in reality I don't think I'll feel or act any differently than I did when I was 19. Leading up to my birthday it's been pretty stressful getting back into Uni work. This upcoming week is my final 'official teaching week' of 2nd year, so deadlines are looming and the library has become my friend.
I got to relax yesterday with a big birthday breakfast accompanied by Skype calls to family overseas with birthday wishes. We then headed up to Gunwarf Quays for a meal at Wagamama's then milled around the shops until we headed home...and ordered a takeaway lol. I swear I ate my own body weight in food yesterday and fell into a heavy food coma by midnight (wooo party! lol). This was probably my first birthday with a more subdued tone seeing as most of my friend's are studying/writing essays at their respective Universities. Not that I minded, it's nice to kick back with the family sometimes and pour over my new Hunger Games Movie Companion Book like a nerd.

Drip Drip Drop Little April Showers

[All Images sourced via Pinterest]
There are times when the rain sucks and this week the rain in the UK has been horrendous. But there a times, usually when I'm inside, when the rain can look really beautiful and be wonderful inspiration. Plus, you can make use of cool raincoats, umbrellas and wellies. Who says you have to sacrifice style when the weather's a little grey?

Wishlist Item...

Spot Cropped Blouse
Dahlia
£48 from ASOS

My head's been in Business student mode for the past few days since getting back into the swing of University and I think it's seeping into my fashion choices. I can't be the only person who loves a good collared blouse? Behind white t-shirts the blouse is probably the item of clothing that I own the most of. The shape and fit are both flattering and versatile, and there are so many different styles out in the shops at the moment.
I fell pretty hard for this one on the ASOS website today. I love the Dalmatian spots and slight crop cut of this one. Plus these types of shirts are always so easy to layer up under jumpers and cardigans with preppy skirts or tucked into jeans. Will have my fingers crossed this heads into the the sale soon!

This Week...

21.04.2012
What I wore: Jumper [TopShop], Blouse & necklace [New Look], Leggings [Primark], Ring [H&M], Boots [M&S]
- I'm seeing lots of floral blossoms around my area at the moment, so pretty - Digging out the ankle boots on Monday for a meet up with a friend from Uni - Pretty much in love with this H&M dress - And these shoes (under the influence of Saturday Night Glee-ver? lol) - Starbucks name spelling fail - New books -

It's been a better week ^_^ compared to the FML awful week I had the week before at least. Good news in my email inbox, catch ups with friends and a trip into town yesterday to window shop and actually shop (for books mind) have definitely cheered me up. I'm also getting on top of Uni work as I head back in to finish up my last Semester for 2nd year. If placement searching serves fruitless, it looks as though I'll be heading into my final year of Uni come September! Scary stuff....
I also turn 20 next Saturday, how fun ;)

West Quay Southampton Student Shop In

I headed out on Tuesday evening to West Quay Southampton's Student Shop In (or Lock In). It's a shopping event held specially for student with the majority of the shops open from 7pm - 10.30pm offering discounts, deals and competitions. It's a great opportunity to get discounts in stores that don't usually offer student discounts and the atmosphere is also great with stores like H&M and Bank also having their own DJ's playing whilst you shop.
I picked up this pretty blouse and scarf from H&M. I've been wanting something from the H&M Conscious collection for a while, but I love this simplicity and lace detail of the top.
The Body Shop were offering a decent 30% off and a free 'Love Your Body' card when you bought something. I'm currently obsessed with my new pink grapefruit lip butter, it smells so good!

This Week...

16.04.2012
What I wore: Top & belt [Primark], Cardigan [TopShop], Brogues, leggings & necklace [New Look], Ring [Dirty Dolly Jewellery, Camden]
- My outfit on Tuesday night in town - A few drinks with some old college friends - Achey feet at the end of the evening (so unpractised in heels lol) - Side pony tail and suited up for an afternoon at Mudpie - Urban Outfitters skirt I tried on, much nicer in person - New shoes from River Island - What I wore to work, very hastily put together after missing my alarm and rushing around the house -

I'll be honest it's not really been the best of weeks. It's started off fine with my friend's down from Uni, I managed to catch up with the majority of them at the start of the week. I spent a nice afternoon down in Romsey with the Mudpie ladies, then Thursday hit like a bombshell with my memory stick breaking and losing some of my Uni work followed up by placement rejections and well...I haven't been in the best of moods since.
Some retail therapy, a new Team Starkid musical/Glee episodes, a nice chat with le dad and leftover Easter chocolate did manage to pull me out of my funk a little and this week is shaping up to be a little better. I'm planning on heading to the West Quay Shopping Centre's student lock-in tomorrow. It's still shouldn't be too late to register. Any fellow Southampton-ers(?) heading down?
Here's to a better week...

Inspired by...Titanic's Jack & Rose

I thought I'd theme this little feature in tribute to the 100th year anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic this weekend. As well as remembering those who lost their lives on the ship's ill-fated maiden voyage, I know many will also be heading towards the cinema to experience James Cameron's epic love story in 3d [for the record, I'm still refusing to see it unless they change the ending - let him share the damn door Rose!].
I thought I'd throw a little focus to many people's favourite tragic lovers Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater/Dawson, as portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.

I've given the couple a more modern twist with these looks. For Rose, the opulence from her upper class background remains, with a beaded Marchesa gown, but I've also taken some inspiration from her various wraps and longer skirts throughout the movie with the other pieces. Jack's look was pretty easy. Smart, simple, with a touch of working class and not forgetting his trouser braces. And of course, a replica of 'The Heart of the Ocean'.
